Ashley and Blake

Ashley and Blake got married on a beautiful day at Calvary United Methodist Church in Annapolis, and the reception at the gorgeous Annapolis Marriott Waterfront, right on the water in downtown Annapolis. We were lucky enough to have the time to make a couple of stops with this fun wedding party between the ceremony and reception, and Annapolis abounds with perfect locations. Then it was off to the Marriott for a lively party all evening. Both Ashley and Blake families were a pleasure to work with, and I had a wonderful time with them. A special bonus that evening was getting to work with my favorite videographer, Bill Desrochers (assisted his son Eric). He and I work in synch, no tripping over each other, in fact the opposite–we move around each other in such a way that we enable each other to be even more creative. A great day indeed!

Here are just a couple from last weekend. I absolutely love not having to rush to get the portrait part of the day done–and the results are worth it. That combined with a golf cart at our disposal to tool around the grounds of the beautiful Inn at Huntingfield Creek made for an excellent day of photography for me. More to come!

Loreal and Ross

There is no better place to hold a wedding on a beautiful spring day than right on the water, as they do at Celebrations at the Bay in Pasadena, MD. Loreal and Ross were honored with a perfect day, not too hot, gorgeous skies, and a venue that is elegant and refreshing. I was accompanied on this wedding by my former partner (and mentor) Jeff Goldman, and we had a wonderful time shooting together–every time we get to do a wedding together, which isn’t often, it’s like the good old times are rolling again. We work in sync with one another so easily.

We both want to thank the families of Loreal and Ross who treated us like family on a flawless day!

Bethany and Domenic

I love photographing friends’ weddings. Bethany and I went to school together, graduating from the Towson University Theater Department some years ago (who cares how many?). Students who go through the awesome amount of work that is required for a degree in Theater Arts become very close friends, and stay close friends. Bethany and I always stayed in touch and when she told me she was getting married, I was so happy for her! I got the chance to meet Domenic when we had lunch with another old friend from the Theater Dept at Belvedere Square a few months before the wedding and I could tell they made a wonderful couple. I’d never seen Bethany this happy!

Ceremony and reception were at Ceresville Mansion in Frederick, an elegant, historic mansion and a perfect setting for a wedding.

Amy and Chad

My first wedding in St Michael’s was a wonderful experience. Amy and Chad, both nurses (she is an ER nurse, he is a flight nurse for Shock Trauma) decided that The Oaks in St Michael’s was their dream venue for their reception. And they were right! Even though it was a March wedding, the day was beautiful, warm and sunny. The band, Doctor’s Orders, is a 12 piece band out of the Maryland/Virginia area and they really know how to get a crowd jumping. A great combination for a gorgeous–and fun–wedding and reception!

I was lucky to be joined by Jeffrey Wolk and Rebecca Rothey as second and third shooters. We all had a great time photographing together and the staff at The Oaks treated us like guests. Two thumbs up for the whole experience!

Amy and Brandon’s engagement session

Brandon, Amy & I went downtown on a chilly March afternoon to shoot these. Amy braved it out because I know she was freezing! The walk up to Federal Hill was well worth the hike because the views from there are fantastic. It also gave me the opportunity to do some nice infrared portraits while we were up there!

Nicole and Russ’s engagement session

Nicole, Russ and I tried to set this session up a couple of times, but the snow gods kept interfering. Finally we got a chance to get together. The only thing was, the Savage Mill, where we initially planned to do the shoot, was covered in several feet of snow. So we took a shot and met at the Marriott Waterfront at Baltimore’s Harborplace, and took a stroll around. Fortunately the weather cooperated for a bit even though it was chilly, and we visited several locations ending up with nice hot Irish coffees at John Steven Ltd in Fells Point (on my short list of favorite restaurants, great seafood!). Kudos to Nicole and Russ for meeting me in a place they’d never been before. And I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve gone for drinks after a shoot! I had a really good time.

I also got a chance to use my new infrared converted camera for an actual job, instead of trolling the graveyards with it–and even though infrared is definitely at its most striking when there is greenery and foliage in the image, I think they still ended up being pretty dramatic looking. I look forward to using it at Nicole and Russ’s wedding in July!

Julia and Tony

It’s not every day I get to photograph a couple whose story is so incredibly romantic that it gets published in the Washington Post. They met when they were very young (Julia was one, Tony was the older man at 2). Julia moved away to Tuscon, Arizona when she was 8 years old. Not to be deterred, Tony kept in touch by mail.

“Dear Julia, People ask what girl do you like? I say a girl who lives in Tosian Araizonia. Do you know I think of you ever night? I am Tony. I realy do like you, in fact I love you. . . . I can’t wait till you come back!”

When Julia still hadn’t moved back by Valentine’s Day, he wrote another letter.

“Dear Julia, How ya’ doin’. Of course, its TONY. Well, happy Valintines day way down south! We the people had a nice one up here in Washington, D.C.

If you came up and asked me if I would take you to the dance, of course I would acsept the invitation. . . . Heres a chart, ME+YOU=LOVE=ENGAGEMENT=MARRIAGE=KIDS. So as you can see we fit perfectly together. I know this will sound weird but when we first met we where hugging and kissing each other . . . When we grow up I hope we can get engaged and married what do you think? I think that would be the best moment in my fun filled, adventurous and romantic life. LOVE AND MANY KISSES (YOUR LOVING MOST ADMIERER) TONY A. SENERCHIA.”

Each would go on to other serious relationships–engagements happened, trans-Atlantic moves were made, but finally Tony and Julia found each other on facebook. You can see their story in the Washington Post (with video even) as well as a blog post from the same reporter, John Kelly, complete with scans of Tony’s ardent missives.

You might think no couple could ever live up to the, well, absolute CUTENESS of those letters, but they do. I have never had so much fun working on a New Year’s Eve. Both the ceremony and the reception were a blast. DJ Frank Marsden (my favorite dj to work with) kept the party dancing the entire night! And of course the Gramercy Mansion is the perfect place for a fun filled and romantic adventure

Chrissi and Robert

This wedding was a beautiful holiday affair at the Gramercy Mansion. Photographed by Jeffrey Wolk for Heather Coburn Photography, with exceptional results. Even though I wasn’t there I can see clearly that they were a fun loving couple and the Gramercy is just the perfect place to host such a party. From solemn moments holding prayer before the ceremony to some wild dancing, Chrissi and Rob threw a wedding their guests won’t forget anytime soon. And the bonus is, they chose a night when there WASN’T a blizzard!
